I was in the bookstore this weekend picking up a book that our marriage counselor told us to get (it's Getting The Love You Want by Harville Hendrix, in case you're interested). But right next to it I noticed several books that seemed much more interesting like Undressing Infidelity: Why More Wives are Unfaithful by Diane Shader Smith, Love Affairs: Marriage & Infidelity by Richard Taylor, and especially, The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists by Neil Strauss.
The first one is an account of a woman who came very close to having an affair one while on a business trip and then decided to interview other women who had actually cheated in an attempt to find out why they strayed. The book consists of the stories of fourteen of these women.
The second book is based on the author's viewpoint that affairs are often a by-product of normal human nature, especially given the fragile nature of marriage in general.
The third book is different from the others, but I find it curious that it was on the same shelf as books discussing marriage. It's basically a book of tips and experiences in picking up girls and making them want you. A dangerous book for a married man to have in his collection, to be sure.
I wanted to get them all, but in the end I bought only the one that our marriage counselor had recommended. I'm still curious about the others, though.
